Travel Nursing Job Details

- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Weekend Schedule: Generally every third weekend; flexibility may be required based on department needs
- Holiday Schedule: Every third holiday, with an expectation to work one winter holiday
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3 based on acuity and census
- Charting: Epic
- Orientation: Two department orientation days and one unit-based shift
ICU Travel Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Nebraska
- At least 1 year of ICU or critical-care nursing experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Recent experience caring for mechanically ventilated patients
- Experience with arterial lines, PICC lines, ports, chest tubes, drains, wounds, ostomies, OG/NG tubes, and PPE protocols
- Ability to identify arrhythmias and provide care for patients requiring cardioversion, defibrillation, post-cardiac catheterization monitoring, and TEE-related care
- Experience titrating critical-care medications and infusions, including insulin, norepinephrine, Cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, amiodarone, Lasix, TPA, and sedation drips
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Willingness to float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg, accepting a full patient assignment when floating
ICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult patients with conditions including DKA, CHF, CVA, sepsis, overdose, COVID-related illness, trauma, and other complex medical diagnoses
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, CPAP, BiPAP, and other respiratory support
- Administer and titrate critical-care infusions according to patient response and clinical protocols
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret telemetry strips, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Manage invasive lines, drains, tubes, wounds, ostomies, and other critical-care equipment
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, nursing assistants, and the broader interdisciplinary care team
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care while maintaining accurate documentation in Epic
- Provide patient and family education, pain management, and compassionate support throughout the care experience
- Float to PCU or MedSurg as needed while maintaining quality care and appropriate prioritization
