Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with a WI or compact RN license and a minimum of 3 years' ICU experience for a 12-hour night shift contract.

Details

  • 17-bed ICU within a Level III Trauma Center, Level II NICU, and Primary Stroke Center hospital
  • Patient population includes sepsis, ETOH, IVDA, OD, SI, delirium, GI bleeds, strokes with TPA, ARF, COVID, and DKA
  • Surgical patients include general, open abdominal, ortho (total joints), ENT, and OBGYN cases
  • Cardiac/vascular patients include fempops, CABG, EVAR, valves, post cath (radial and femoral), AAA, and amputations
  • No complex neuro patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:2 based on acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
  • EPIC EMR preferred
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, and NxStage CRRT equipment
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float within scope of practice to intermediate units (1:3), MSU, ED Boarding (1:4), or Observation units (1:4), though floating is rare
  • Travelers float first when floating is required

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
  • Skills required include vent/trach management, invasive line management (art lines, CVP, Swan-Ganz), drains, chest tubes, foley management, post-surgical recovery, post-cath care, CVVH, and CRRT
  • Cardiovascular and CV surgery experience, IABP, and Impella experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct critical care nursing to a diverse ICU patient population including surgical, cardiac, and vascular cases
  • Unit supported by CNAs, a HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, PM ICU Supervisor, phlebotomy, educator, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • ICU-specific pharmacist available during day shift
  • One day of orientation including educator meeting, badge/system access setup, meet and greet with Nurse Manager, and remainder of shift with a preceptor
  • Holiday coverage required for one holiday per contract, on an every-other-holiday basis
  • RTO requests must be approved through the manager
  • Scrub color may be any color, but camo, graphics, logos, or designs are not permitted
  • Free parking available on site
  • More than 2 sick calls may prompt a discussion and potential contract review or termination
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No radius rules apply; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
