Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring critical care experience and NE or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Level 2 trauma acute care hospital setting in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adults
  • RNs required to titrate drips including cardiac, insulin, and sedation medications
  • Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators, with RNs troubleshooting as needed
  • Cardiac monitoring/telemetry required, including reading, interpreting, and documenting strips (GE monitors, with tele tech oversight)
  • Nurse aide support available based on census, plus a Healthcare Support tech 3 days per week
  • 12-hour day shifts (0630-1830)
  • Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Floating primarily to PCU and occasionally MedSurg at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Minimum of 2 holidays required within the contract timeframe
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • On-call response time of 30 minutes if called back in

Requirements

  • Active RN license, State or Compact (NLC), specifically NE or compact license required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and documenting telemetry strips
  • EPIC EMR experience
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm residence location
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill adult ICU patients, including monitoring, medication titration, and telemetry interpretation
  • Complete 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
  • Pass a Wednesday open-book exam during orientation with a required score of 90% to continue the assignment
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff, with travelers incorporated; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed except for weekends-only requests
