ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Contract in New Haven, CT
Join a high-acuity Neuro ICU travel nursing team in New Haven, Connecticut, and provide critical care to adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological conditions. This 13-week travel assignment offers the opportunity to work in a 19-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit within a Level I Trauma Center, supported by a collaborative multidisciplinary team and advanced critical-care resources. New Haven is a vibrant, historic city known for its culture, dining, arts, and convenient access to coastal New England destinations.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
- Assignment Dates: October 30, 2026–January 29, 2027
- Duration: 13-week ICU travel nursing contract
- Location: New Haven, Connecticut
- Unit: 19-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU)
- Schedule: 3 night shifts per week, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:2 on days, nights, and weekends
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or as needed
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients with complex neurological and critical-care diagnoses
- Charting: Epic
- Float Expectations: ICU and PCU within scope of practice
Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license; Connecticut licensure required before the assignment begins
- At least 2 years of recent Neuro ICU, neurocritical care, or comparable intensive care experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Experience caring for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, neurotrauma, stroke, craniotomy, and craniectomy
- Strong clinical competency with ventilator management, arterial and central line care, EVDs, lumbar drains, CRRT/CVVH, vasoactive medications, sedation, and neurological assessments
- Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
- Ability to work independently in a high-acuity environment while collaborating effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
- Must reside outside the applicable 75-mile local radius for this travel assignment
Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for critically ill adult and geriatric neurological patients
- Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and recognize changes in patient condition
- Manage patients with EVDs, lumbar drains, ICP monitoring, arterial lines, central lines, ventilators, and CVVH
- Care for patients following neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomy and craniectomy
- Administer and titrate cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, sedation, and paralytic infusions according to established protocols
- Manage airway, respiratory, hemodynamic, and fluid-balance needs, including ventilator and high-flow oxygen support
- Interpret dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases and respond promptly to clinical changes
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team
- Support emergency response, rapid interventions, and safe transitions of care
- Float within the ICU and PCU scope as needed to support patient-care priorities
