  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; weekend coverage includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:2
  • Unit Capacity: 23 beds with an average daily census of 19
  • Healthcare Setting: Short-term acute care and Level I trauma environment
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience required
  • Floating: ICU and step-down/PCU within scope as needed
  • Call: Not required
  • Orientation: 24 hours

SICU Travel Nurse Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Connecticut by the start date; pending licensure may be considered if the license will be active before the assignment begins
  • At least 2 years of recent SICU, ICU, or comparable critical care nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent Epic charting experience
  • Demonstrated experience caring for mechanically ventilated patients and managing high-acuity postoperative and multisystem conditions
  • Experience in a Level I trauma environment preferred
  • Ability to float to a step-down/PCU setting while practicing within scope
  • Flu vaccination required
  • Ability to complete required pre-start and annual specialty modules
  • Travel assignment; local candidates within 75 miles are not eligible

Critical Care RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill adult and geriatric SICU patients
  • Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
  • Perform airway management and care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula therapy
  • Titrate vasoactive medications, continuous IV sedation, insulin protocols, and other critical care infusions
  • Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, and other invasive devices
  • Interpret arterial blood gases, dysrhythmias, and 12-lead EKG/ECG findings
  • Provide care related to acute and chronic renal failure, CVA/acute stroke, GI surgery, and other complex surgical diagnoses
  • Administer blood products and medications safely while following infection prevention and isolation precautions
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Float to the step-down/PCU unit as needed to support patient care operations
