Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring 3 years of recent ICU experience with neuro or CV background.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center acute care setting
  • Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro Surgery) with 32 beds; nurse:patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1
  • Sister units include a 36-bed Medical/Cardiac ICU and 12-bed overflow ICU
  • Common diagnoses include trauma, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, ex-lap, crani, specialty neuro-surgery cases, CVA, sepsis, ARDS, and COVID
  • CVICU patient types include on/off pump CABG, valves, post caths, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, and esophagectomies
  • RNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, levophed, and insulin
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling; manager may balance shifts for unit needs
  • Weekend requirement of 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri-Sat nights or Sat-Sun days)
  • 1 holiday off possible during assignment
  • Floating required to telemetry with 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, and between the SICU, Medical/Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU
  • No standby or call requirement, though low census may occur up to 3 times per contract
  • RT and hospitalist/intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • No monitor techs on unit; RNs must interpret their own telemetry strips (GE monitors)
  • Charge nurse does not take patients
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation lasts 1-2 days

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required, with at least 2 of those years in ICU
  • Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) specialty care
  • Level 1 trauma or neuro ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Experience at a similarly sized ICU preferred
  • Must pass a UNA Dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
  • Must pass a Sim Lab skills assessment on Day 1 of orientation
  • Skills validation required for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to trauma, neuro-surgical, cardiac, and medical ICU patients
  • Interpret own telemetry strips as no monitor techs are on the unit
  • Collaborate with 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist and respiratory therapy support
  • Utilize ventilator and respiratory equipment including Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPap, and Airvo
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided experience requirements are met
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
