Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring 3 years of recent ICU experience with a background in neuro or CV care.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center acute care setting
  • Surgical ICU (Trauma Neuro Surgery) with 32 beds, and Medical ICU (Medical Cardiac + Overflow) with 36 + 12 beds
  • Nurse:Patient ratios of 1:2 and 1:1
  • Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Common diagnoses include trauma, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, ex-lap, crani, specialty neuro-surgery cases, CVA, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, CABG, valves, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO
  • RNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, and insulin
  • RNs interpret their own telemetry strips on GE monitors, no dedicated monitor techs
  • 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist and RT coverage
  • Self-scheduling with manager oversight for unit needs
  • Weekend requirement of 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (Fri-Sat nights or Sat-Sun days)
  • Floating required to tele units at 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, and between sister ICUs as needed
  • No standby/call requirement, though low census days possible up to 3 times per contract
  • May have 1 holiday off during the assignment

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required, including at least 2 years in ICU setting
  • Experience in neuro or CV care required
  • Level 1 trauma or neuro experience preferred but not required
  • Must pass UNA Dysrhythmia exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
  • Must pass a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
  • BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing across trauma, neuro, and cardiac ICU patient populations
  • Skills validation performed for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation is 1-2 days
  • Charge nurse does not take patients
  • No dedicated nurse aides on the unit; support staff limited to sitters and health unit secretaries
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided experience requirements are met
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
