ICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Abilene, Texas

Travel Nursing Job Details
- Position: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel RN)
- Location: Abilene, Texas
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,820–$1,910
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Contract Duration: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 2 patients per nurse
- Unit: 24-bed mixed medical-surgical, trauma, and cardiovascular ICU
- Weekend Coverage: Required

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand at the time of submission
- At least 2 years of recent intensive care unit (ICU) nursing experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
- Experience caring for high-acuity adult and geriatric patients
- Ability to work a 3x12-hour day-shift schedule, including weekends
- Flexibility to float to another unit or campus as needed
- Willingness to complete required compliance items and onboarding activities within established timelines
- Altera charting experience preferred but not required
- Must reside at least 150 miles from the assignment location in accordance with travel eligibility requirements
Critical Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult and geriatric patients in a mixed ICU environment
- Care for patients with medical, surgical, trauma, neurological, and open-heart conditions
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and complex respiratory needs
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring and manage arterial lines, central lines, PICCs, EVDs, and ICP monitoring
- Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, sedative, paralytic, insulin, and other continuous IV therapies according to protocols
- Provide care for patients requiring CRRT, IABP, and Impella support
- Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias, acute stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and multisystem organ dysfunction
- Administer blood products, emergency medications, and procedural sedation while maintaining patient safety
- Assist with chest tube care, suctioning, line management, infection prevention, and isolation precautions
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record
