  • Healthcare Setting: Stepdown ICU/IMCU caring for low-acuity ICU and high-acuity telemetry patients

  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending February 1, 2027
  • Schedule: Three 12-hour day shifts per week, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (36 hours per week)
  • Call: Once every six weeks
  • Weekend Coverage: Six weekend shifts per six-week period
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 3:1
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
  • Unit Profile: Approximately 25 beds with a daily census of about 20 patients

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent ICU, IMCU, PCU, or stepdown nursing experience
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand at the time of submission
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Demonstrated experience with critical care or high-acuity telemetry patients
  • Experience managing arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, drains, temporary pacemakers, and continuous cardiac monitoring
  • Proficiency with titration of cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, and heparin infusions
  • Ability to interpret dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases and perform frequent neurologic assessments
  • Strong clinical judgment, independent decision-making, and interdisciplinary communication skills
  • Charting system experience required; Altera experience is preferred but not required
  • Travel nursing experience preferred

ICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients requiring stepdown ICU-level monitoring and high-acuity telemetry care.
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, oxygenation, and changes in patient condition.
  • Administer and titrate cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, and anticoagulant infusions according to established protocols.
  • Care for patients recovering from STEMI, cardiac catheterization, thrombolytic therapy, neurosurgery, and other complex procedures.
  • Manage patients with high oxygen requirements, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomies, pericardial drains, temporary pacemakers, and other advanced therapies.
  • Perform focused and comprehensive neurologic assessments for patients with CVA, intracranial bleeds, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, or following thrombolytic treatment.
  • Provide wound, surgical drain, feeding tube, urinary catheter, vascular access, and blood product care.
  • Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, IV services, rehabilitation, radiology, and other members of the care team.
  • Communicate patient status changes promptly and participate in safe, evidence-based care planning and transitions.
