Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU Float Pool RN for a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and AZ or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Acute care Level 1 trauma teaching hospital setting in the ICU Float Pool
• Floats among all ICU areas, MedSurg/Tele units, and sister campuses including Westgate in Glendale and AZ General Laveen
• ICU Float Cluster includes Tower 2 (medical, surgical, trauma, 1:2 ratio), Tower 4 (cardiothoracic ICU specializing in lung transplants and ECMO, 1:2 ratio), and 4 Neuro (neuro-specific ICU, 1:2 ratio)
• Tele ratios are 1:4
• Manages all types of critical drips
• Uses all types of respiratory support equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and hi-flow
• Uses GE tele monitors and requires ability to read tele strips
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour day or night shifts (7AM-7:30PM or 7PM-7:30PM)
• 36 guaranteed hours per week
• 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 4-week period
• Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
• No call requirements, though standby status may apply during low census with a 30-minute response time
• Schedule provided 4 weeks in advance, subject to change with 2 weeks notice based on hospital needs
• 2 shifts of orientation, with a third shift only if needed

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital experience preferred due to patient acuity and complexity
• Must be a well-rounded ICU nurse capable of functioning independently when floated to other units
• Must pass an Advanced Dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within 2 attempts prior to contract
• Must pass a Day 1 SIMs Lab competency test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, maintaining sterile field
• Must be willing and able to float without refusal to any assigned unit
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsible for direct patient care across multiple ICU specialties and acuity levels when floating
• All shift reports are completed at bedside, with a two-person skin assessment completed within the first 4 hours of shift
• RNs will also receive educational-based training on lifts, restraints, and wound care during orientation
• Charge RN provides assignment sheets at the start of each shift; department code changes with each unit clocking
• Expected to be on unit by 7AM/7PM for shift huddle
• Staffing office is off-campus; assignment communication may occur via text service or phone call 30-60 minutes prior to shift
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
• No local rate offered for this position
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility associated with this health system within the past year
