Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and TNCC certifications along with an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Level 1 trauma center emergency department with 65 private beds including 2 trauma bays
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity and department needs
  • Cares for a wide range of patients from newborns to elderly with varying acuity, including critically ill, stroke, cardiac arrest, and stabilized trauma patients
  • Trauma bay patients are managed by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for traumas once stabilized and transferred to a pod
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour evening shifts, 3P-3A, with rotating every other weekend requirement
  • Weekend requirement is Sat/Sun for most shifts, Fri/Sat for 7a-7p shift
  • Every other holiday required, negotiable based on contract terms
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, primarily not for travelers
  • ED techs present at 1:9 ratio, respiratory therapists assist with vent/BiPAP/CPAP/high flow equipment
  • Tele monitor tech on staff; RNs expected to interpret and act on rhythms using Phillips monitors
  • Radiology or transport staff handle X-Ray/CT transport; nurses and techs draw labs

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
  • SANE RN experience preferred
  • Experience in a teaching hospital with residents preferred
  • Proficiency in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips required
  • Ability to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms required
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across a wide acuity range in a high-volume, Level 1 trauma emergency department
  • Work alongside a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times, 2 charge nurses, and a 24/7 house supervisor
  • Charge nurses do not typically take assignments but may assist as second nurse for traumas or critical patients
  • Scrubs may be any tasteful color with solid colored undershirts only
  • Travelers do not self-schedule; shifts are assigned by the scheduling manager with time-off requests reviewed for approval
  • Block scheduling available when possible, including options like 2-on/4-on or 6 consecutive shifts
  • Local rate applies for candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility; no radius rule restricts eligibility
  • COVID vaccination not required
  • First-time travelers may be considered given minimum experience preferred
