Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department role requiring ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and TNCC certifications.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting
  • 65-bed unit with all private rooms and 2 trauma bays
  • Cares for a wide range of patients from newborns to elderly with varying acuity, including critically ill, stroke, cardiac arrest, and stabilized trauma patients
  • Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred out of the trauma bay, but typically will not serve as primary nurse in the trauma bay itself
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity
  • EPIC EMR used
  • 12-hour evening shifts (12P-12A)
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Every other holiday or as needed based on department needs, negotiable per contract
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Rare floating possible to other units in a 'help all' capacity only
  • Uses Philips cardiac monitors with orientation provided
  • Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
  • Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-ray or CT

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certifications required
  • TNCC or TNS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
  • Must be proficient in titrating vasopressor and cardiac drips as well as antihypertensive medications
  • Must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms independently
  • SANE RN experience preferred
  • Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

  • Care team includes 2 charge nurses, a 24/7 house supervisor, and ED techs at a 1:9 ratio
  • Charge nurses do not typically take patient assignments but may assist as second nurse for traumas or critical patients
  • Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times, with additional mid-levels as needed
  • 12 hours of non-billable orientation provided; guaranteed hours do not apply during this time
  • No specific scrub color required, though tasteful, solid-colored shirts under scrubs are expected
  • Local candidates accepted with a reduced local bill rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
  • First-time travelers may be considered
