Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department, requiring ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications along with an active IL RN license.
Details
- Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds, including 2 trauma bays
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity and department needs
- Patient population spans newborns to elderly, from minor complaints to critically ill trauma, stroke, and cardiac arrest cases
- Trauma patients are managed by a dedicated trauma team; travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients once transferred to a pod
- Utilizes EPIC EMR
- Evening shift schedule (3P-3A), 12-hour shifts, 48 hours guaranteed per week
- Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend days varying by shift
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or per department needs, negotiable per contract
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, primarily not assigned to travelers
- ED staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians, 2 charge nurses, and 24/7 house supervisor coverage
- ED techs support the unit at a 1:9 ratio
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment
- Philips cardiac monitors used, with monitor tech support; RNs must independently interpret and act on rhythms
- Nurses and techs perform lab draws; radiology or transport handles X-ray/CT transport
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
- Proficiency in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips required
- Ability to recognize and act on life-threatening cardiac rhythms required
- Negative drug screen required across all panels
Additional Information
- Care for a wide variety of critical and non-critical patients including strokes, heart attacks, and cardiac arrest cases
- Travelers do not self-schedule; shifts are assigned by the scheduling manager with time-off requests reviewed for approval
- Block scheduling available when feasible, often in rotations such as 2-on/4-on or 6 consecutive shifts
- Cancellation policy allows for the equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty
- Scrubs of any color accepted, but must be tasteful with only solid-colored shirts underneath
- Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
- No radius rule restricting eligibility for this position
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
