RN – Emergency Department

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to adult and pediatric patients across a wide range of acuities.
• Perform patient assessments, identify urgent clinical needs, and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize/manage dysrhythmias.
• Obtain and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG results.
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
• Provide care for patients experiencing CVA, psychiatric emergencies, suicidal ideation, and drug overdose.
• Administer emergency medications, IV vasopressors, continuous IV sedation, and continuous IV paralytics as ordered.
• Perform procedural sedation administration and monitoring.
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access and perform phlebotomy.
• Administer blood products and provide central-line care and management.
• Manage respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP.
• Apply splints and provide orthopedic emergency care.
• Maintain appropriate isolation precautions and PPE standards.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, IV teams, rapid response, and other interdisciplinary services.
• Float when required based on census and department needs.
• Provide safe, efficient care in a very busy, fast-paced Emergency Department.

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required.
• 1+ year RN experience required; strong ER experience preferred.
• Strong Emergency Department experience required.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• Travel experience not required.
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• PALS – Required
• NIHSS – Required
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Experience with combined Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department required.
• Epic experience preferred; Epic charting used.
• Patient ratio approximately 1:5, with mixed/shared acuity.
• Float required when census warrants.
• Every other weekend.
• Minimal RTO preferred.
• Pending license not accepted.
• Locals within 75 miles not accepted.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white.
• Orientation: 16 hours.
