Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a fast-paced trauma center requiring a WA or compact RN license and at least 1 year of large trauma setting experience.

Details

  • Acute care Emergency Department with 56 designated beds, expanding to 60-70s with hall beds
  • Dedicated 6-bed Fast Track area for lower acuity patients
  • Separate 5-bed Triage area, staffed primarily by department staff though travelers may be assigned after passing a triage test
  • 18 ED beds designated for holding inpatients awaiting bed placement, managed by ED RNs with occasional float support from inpatient RNs
  • Locked hallway with 6 private Psych/seclusion treatment rooms
  • In-house security available
  • Approximately 170-200 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3, or 1:4 for lower acuity patients
  • Common diagnoses include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health cases
  • Support staff includes ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, and CNAs for 1:1 sitters
  • Cardiac monitoring available with monitor techs; RNs read strips
  • Radiology located adjacent to the ED with transport support for patient movement
  • ED techs perform EKGs and primary blood draws, with lab assistance for difficult draws as needed
  • Respiratory therapists manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and complete ABGs
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • Evening shift schedule, 3p-3a, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • No floating required
  • No call or standby requirement, though extra shifts may be available

Requirements

  • Active WA or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting required
  • BSN not required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC
  • NIHSS certification also required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Driver's license copy required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of acute and trauma diagnoses
  • Manage ED holds for inpatients awaiting bed placement
  • Work alongside ED techs, CNAs, RTs, and physicians/mid-levels in a collaborative care team
  • Must work holidays in November and December, with consideration for 1 of the 3 major holidays if it doesn't conflict with unit needs
  • Any professional colored scrubs permitted
  • Unit orientation includes 1 day of compliance training (8-10 hours) and 1 day of department-specific orientation (12 hours)
  • No RTO permitted during the first full week of the assignment
  • First-time travelers may be considered
