Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a busy Emergency Department position requiring a WA or compact RN license and prior trauma center experience.

Details

  • High-volume ER/Trauma Center with 56 beds, expanding to 60-70s with hall beds
  • Separate 6-bed Fast Track and 5-bed Triage area, with travelers occasionally assigned to triage
  • 18 beds designated for ER holds, managed by ER RNs with support from floating inpatient RNs
  • 6 private locked treatment rooms for psych/seclusion patients
  • In-house security available
  • Approximately 170-200 patients per day with 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio (1:4 for low acuity)
  • Common diagnoses include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health
  • Support staff includes ED physicians, mid-levels, charge nurses, house supervisors, ED techs, and CNAs for 1:1 sitters
  • Uses Epic EMR
  • RTs manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and complete ABGs; ED techs perform EKGs
  • Telemetry monitoring with dedicated monitor techs; RNs read strips
  • Radiology located adjacent to ED with transport support
  • Nurse or ED tech performs blood draws, with lab assistance for difficult draws
  • Night shift schedule, 7p-730a, every other weekend
  • No floating requirements
  • No call or standby requirement, though extra shifts may be available

Requirements

  • Active WA or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of experience in a larger trauma center setting required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and PALS or ENPC
  • NIHSS certification also required
  • BSN not required
  • Active state license verification and Nursys verification required for consideration
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • ER RNs manage their own ER holds, with inpatient RNs floating in to assist as needed
  • 12-hour shift length with department-based scheduling built around existing traveler patterns
  • Must work holidays in November/December, with consideration given for 1 of 3 holidays if it doesn't conflict with unit demands
  • No RTO permitted during the first full week of the assignment
  • Scrub color and dress code allow any professional colors
  • Orientation includes 1 day of compliance training (8-10 hours) and 1 day of department-specific orientation (12 hours)
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
