Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in New Haven, CT
Bring your emergency nursing expertise to a high-acuity, Level I Trauma environment in New Haven, Connecticut. This Emergency Department RN travel assignment offers the opportunity to care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients while building experience across emergency and observation settings. New Haven’s 06510 area provides a vibrant, walkable urban atmosphere with excellent dining, arts, historic neighborhoods, and convenient access to the Connecticut shoreline and major Northeast cities.
Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980–$2,080
- Location: New Haven, Connecticut 06510
- Healthcare Setting: Emergency Department within a Level I Trauma and comprehensive stroke environment
- Start Date: October 30, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, with longer assignments of up to 26 weeks available
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours weekly
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6
- Call: Not required
- Orientation: 48 hours
- Scheduling: Block scheduling may be accommodated based on department needs
- Additional Assignment Details: Cross-training and floating within scope to nearby emergency care settings and an ED observation unit may be required
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in Connecticut, or ability to obtain licensure before the start date
- At least 1 year of emergency department nursing experience required; 2 years preferred. Candidates with approximately 1.5 years of experience in a comparable hospital setting may be considered
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and TNCC certifications required; TNS may be accepted in place of TNCC
- NIHSS, PALS, CPI, or ENPC certification is a plus, depending on clinical background
- Experience caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a high-acuity emergency setting
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Ability to float within scope of practice and adapt to changing patient volumes and acuity
- Current influenza vaccination is required in accordance with assignment policy
- Travel assignment; candidates residing within 75 miles of the assignment location are not eligible
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients with medical, surgical, neurological, cardiac, orthopedic, psychiatric, and traumatic conditions
- Assess, prioritize, monitor, and treat patients in a fast-paced Level I Trauma emergency department
- Care for patients experiencing stroke, STEMI, overdose, acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, respiratory failure, multisystem organ dysfunction, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other emergent conditions
- Perform and support emergency procedures, including IV access, blood product administration, 12-lead EKGs, chest tube management, central line care, ventilator care, and medication administration
- Manage dysrhythmias, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, emergency medications, isolation precautions, and other high-acuity interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the healthcare team
- Document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and patient outcomes accurately in Epic
- Cross-train and float within clinical scope to support ED observation and other emergency care areas as needed
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and patient-centered environment while responding effectively to rapidly changing conditions
