Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This position involves working in a fast-paced environment that requires strong critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Job Details
- Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work during the holidays in November and December
Qualifications
- ACLS Certification
- BLS Certification
- NIHSS Certification
- PALS Certification
- TNCC Certification
- Minimum of 2 years of emergency room experience preferred
- Acceptance of one year of experience in a larger trauma setting
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 56 beds with the potential for up to 70 including hall beds
- Fast Track: Yes, 6 beds available
- Triage Area: Separate area with 5 beds; travelers may be assigned to triage after passing a test
- Holding Area: 18 designated beds for holding inpatients
- Psych/Sec Rooms: Yes, with a locked hall containing 6 private treatment rooms
- Patient Volume: Approximately 170-200 patients per day
- Nurse Ratios: 1:3 for high acuity; 1:4 for low acuity
- Common Diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, Stroke, Sepsis, DKA, Acute Mental Status Changes, Respiratory issues, Abdominal pain, and Mental Health crises
Team Structure
- ED Physicians and Mid-Level Providers available
- Support from Charge Nurses/House Supervisors
- ED Techs and CNAs assist with patient care, including 1:1 sitter assignments
Technology and Equipment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Epic
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Managed by RT; includes Vents, CPAP, BiPAP
- Transport for X-Ray and CT imaging located adjacent to the ER
- Nurse and ED Tech responsible for drawing labs
Orientation and Training
A comprehensive orientation program is provided, including:
- 1 day of compliance training (8-10 hours) covering policies, education, and procedures
- 2nd day department-specific orientation (12 hours)
Additional Notes
Please note that no requests for time off (RTO) will be considered during the first full week of employment.
