Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring combined adult/pediatric ED experience and an active MI license in hand.

Details

  • 27-bed Emergency Department in a rural hospital setting with an average daily census of 76
  • Primary Stroke Center seeking Trauma IV designation
  • Patients range from neonates and infants to pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Staffing ratio of 1:4-5 on all shifts
  • Treats a wide range of chief complaints including chest pain, respiratory distress, mental health evaluations, OB/GYN emergencies, sepsis, stroke, abdominal pain, sprains/strains/fractures, trauma, and cardiac arrest
  • Unit features include a SANE dedicated room with forensic nurse on call, 2 designated resuscitation rooms, and 4 dedicated mental health preferred rooms
  • 24/7 board certified ED providers, charge nurses, triage nurses, and house supervisor coverage
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:30-07:00)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within service line/scope of practice required as needed
  • Uses Pyxis medication system and Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required in hand
  • Minimum 3 years of ED experience required
  • Combined adult/pediatric ED experience required
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC (CPI preferred)
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Experience with 1:4 patient ratios required
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation administration required
  • Experience managing CVA, neuro-trauma, traumatic brain injury, and ortho-trauma patients required
  • Experience with CPAP/BiPAP management and interpretation of ABGs required
  • Experience caring for ventilated patients and gunshot wound trauma required
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and triage required
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required
  • Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required

  • Care for patients presenting with a wide variety of emergency complaints across all age groups
  • Work alongside 24/7 board-certified ED providers, charge nurses, and triage nurses for support
  • Navy scrub color required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
  • Requested time off of 7+ days requires manager approval, and time off is not granted around holidays (eves and days after holidays)
  • Returning staff must have been gone for at least 1 year from permanent employment to be eligible
