  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
  • Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Weekdays and some weekends, with rotating holidays
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Typical Assignment: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), stepdown, or intermediate care nursing with patient ratios of up to 1:4

PCU Travel Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or a valid compact-state license in hand at the time of submission
  • At least 1 year of recent registered nursing experience; Progressive Care, PCU, stepdown, intermediate care, or telemetry experience strongly preferred
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Recent Epic electronic health record experience
  • Proficiency with IV starts and cardiac telemetry monitoring
  • Ability to care for patients with complex medical diagnoses, including renal, hepatology, cardiology, and pulmonology conditions
  • Comfort managing heparin and insulin drips, with applicable protocol experience
  • Availability for required credentialing and time-sensitive fingerprinting procedures
  • Two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
  • Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a Progressive Care setting
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Administer medications and manage therapies such as heparin and insulin infusions according to established protocols
  • Initiate and maintain peripheral IVs, care for central lines and PICC lines, and administer blood products as appropriate
  • Manage oxygen therapy, high-flow nasal cannula, noninvasive airway support, chest tubes, feeding tubes, surgical drains, and wound care
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and arterial blood gases, communicate clinical changes, and support timely interventions
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
  • Provide safe, accurate documentation in Epic
  • Float to other appropriate units when needed while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care
  • Educate patients and families and promote continuity of care throughout the assignment
