Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Room RN with a CA license, prior travel experience, and Epic proficiency for a 13-week assignment at a Level 2 trauma center.
Details
- Level 2 trauma Emergency Department with 44 beds
- Average daily census of 190-200 patients with fast discharge turnover and occasional inpatient boarding
- Patient population includes STEMI, stroke, syncope, weakness, trauma, and falls with a high elderly demographic
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
- Support staff includes 2-5 ER Techs per shift, Physician Assistants, and 24/7 Respiratory and Anesthesia coverage
- RNs perform bedside triage of ambulance patients and draw blood for IV line placement as needed
- Documentation via Epic and medication management via Pyxis
- 12-hour day shifts with rotating start times (5a, 7a, 9a, 10a, 11a); must be able to work all listed start times
- 36 hours per week over a 13-week assignment
- Every other weekend required
- One major holiday coverage required
- No floating, charge, or on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS (AHA only), and NIHSS certifications required
- PALS (AHA only) or ENPC certification required
- CEN and TNCC certifications strongly preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience required, with 2 years in the ER specialty
- 3-5 years of ER experience strongly preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Trauma and pediatric experience strongly preferred
- Epic EMR experience required and must be reflected in work history
- Strong clinical references required
- Must be able to critically think and manage a fast-paced environment

- Emergency Department focused on patient experience and nursing excellence
- Patients are generally well-educated and vocal about care quality
- Orientation includes 2 ED shifts (24 hours total) plus 1 shift with an educator (4-6 hours)
- Dress code requires professional scrubs of any color (no denim), closed-toe non-skid shoes, minimal jewelry, and neat hair/facial hair
- Nail polish must be chip-free with no gels, acrylics, or extensions
- Strong teamwork and positive attitude expected
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- First-time travelers not being considered for this role
