Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and TNCC certifications with evening shift availability.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department in an acute care hospital setting with 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on patient acuity and department needs
  • Cares for a wide range of patients from newborns to elderly, including critically ill, stroke, cardiac arrest, and trauma cases
  • Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod, but will not serve as primary trauma bay nurse
  • Requires proficiency in titrating vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
  • Utilizes EPIC EMR system
  • Evening shift, 12-hour shifts from 11a-11p
  • Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend definitions varying by shift
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday or based on department needs, negotiable per contract
  • No call or standby requirements for travelers
  • Rare floating possible to other units in a 'help all' capacity, not as primary team nurse
  • Uses Phillips cardiac monitors with orientation provided to travelers

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and TNCC or TNS certifications required
  • ENPC or PALS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
  • SANE RN experience preferred
  • Experience at a teaching hospital with residents preferred
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
  • Must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms independently

Additional Information

  • Assist with vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drip titration for critically ill patients
  • Draw own labs as nurses and techs perform phlebotomy duties in the department
  • Work alongside ED techs (1:9 ratio), respiratory therapists, monitor techs, and a 24/7 house supervisor
  • Two charge nurses per shift, one managing incoming patients/telemetry and one overseeing department needs, occasionally assisting with trauma or critical patients
  • Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times
  • Radiology staff or transport handle X-ray and CT transport
  • Scheduling is managed by the facility, not self-scheduled, though time off requests can be included in contract for review
  • Block scheduling available when possible, such as 2-on/4-off or 6 consecutive shifts
  • No specific scrub color required, but tasteful, solid-colored shirts under scrubs expected
  • Local candidates accepted with a reduced local rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
  • No radius requirement for eligibility
