Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for an Emergency Department position requiring an active IL RN license and a minimum of 2-3 years of ED experience.

Details

  • hospital Emergency Department with 24 beds plus 6 bays and 5 Fastrack beds
  • Level II NICU and Primary Stroke Center facility with no trauma designation
  • Average of 120 patients per day spanning neonates through geriatrics, with 10-12% pediatric cases
  • Patient conditions include chest pain, dizziness, syncope, respiratory/cardiac arrest, stroke, sepsis, ortho, respiratory distress/failure, STEMI, and COVID
  • ED boarding patients are included within the patient ratio
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts, with the 5th patient being lower acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule totaling 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required with no set pattern, based on unit needs
  • Must be flexible and available to work all 7 days of the week
  • Schedules are built in 4-week blocks and released 2 weeks in advance
  • No floating required
  • No on-call requirements
  • EPIC EMR preferred
  • Alaris and Pyxis equipment used by RNs only

Requirements

  • --3 years of ED experience required
  • Active IL RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
  • TNCC certification preferred
  • Strong IV skills required
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring skills required
  • Foley catheter placement and management experience required
  • NGT placement and management experience required
  • Ventilator management experience required, particularly post-arrest care
  • Knowledge of STEMI, CVA, and sepsis treatment protocols required
  • Medication titration experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across a wide range of emergency conditions including cardiac, stroke, sepsis, respiratory, and trauma-related presentations
  • Unit support includes a Charge Nurse (occasionally taking patient assignments), dedicated RT coverage 24/7, a day-shift unit secretary, a mobility aide for lift assistance, and an ED educator available Monday-Friday
  • Orientation consists of one shift, including 4 hours with the unit educator for badge and system access plus computer-based learning, followed by time on the unit with a preceptor
  • RTO requests require Nurse Manager approval
  • Holiday coverage required for one summer and one winter holiday
  • Navy blue scrubs required

  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former employees of the health system must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
