Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Virginia
• At least 1 year of emergency department experience in an acute-care hospital setting; 1–2 years preferred
• At least one completed travel nursing assignment
• Current ACLS, BLS, CPI/Handle with Care, and NIH certifications
• Current PALS or ENPC certification
• Experience caring for patients with chest pain, CHF, COPD, behavioral health needs, and other emergency conditions
• Ability to float as needed and adapt to changing emergency department priorities
• Professional, positive, compassionate, and team-oriented approach to patient care
• All required nursing licenses and certifications must be current before the start date

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Assess, triage, and provide emergency nursing care to adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate timely nursing interventions
• Manage patients presenting with medical, cardiac, respiratory, behavioral health, and other emergency conditions
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with provider orders and nursing standards
• Collaborate with emergency physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate effective patient care
• Perform ongoing patient monitoring, reassessment, documentation, and education
• Support emergency department flow, including prioritization, discharge preparation, and patient transfers
• Maintain accurate documentation in the Medhost electronic health record
• Provide compassionate care while maintaining a professional and supportive environment for patients and families
• Float or assist in other areas as needed to support safe emergency department operations
