Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the Emergency Department (ER) in Winston-Salem, NC. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment at a Level 1 Trauma Center with a strong focus on patient care and safety.

About the Facility:

  • 885 licensed beds
  • Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
  • Chest Pain Center, Burn Center, Stroke Center

Unit Information:

  • 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, 5 BH holding beds
  • Average patients/day: 200-220
  • Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years (3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience for first-time travelers)

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

  • Fast-paced unit, currently under renovation with 2 fixed-wing helicopter pads post-renovation
  • Regional Trauma Center, seeing all ED patients
  • Common cases include GSWs, stabbings, multi-trauma, MVC, MI, CVA, hypothermia, drownings, falls, conscious sedation, defibrillation, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, sexual assault, overdoses, psychosis, pacing, and vent management

Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 3:1, 4:1, 5:1, 6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity
  • LPN: 4:1/5:1/6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity

Required Licensure & Certifications:

  • RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC (Resource Team Requirements)

Skills Required:

As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. You will utilize evidence-based practice, clinical decision-making, compassion, and skilled communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.

Support within the Department:

  • ED Tech: ADLs, vital signs, I/O cath, foley placement, phlebotomy
  • Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse
  • 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists, Paramedic Staff
  • Resource Nurse - Pod leaders, RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist 24/7, SANE Quality Coordinator

Technology/Equipment:

  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Phillips
  • Unit-specific equipment: GE Ultrasounds for point of care, GE EKG machines

Orientation (facility and unit):

  • NEO, 2 days departmental
