Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced CVICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring active IL licensure and at least 2 years of CVICU experience.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a 20-bed, all-private, all-monitored Cardiovascular ICU
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:1 to 2:1 depending on patient acuity
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, Valves, Dissections, AAA, Vascular procedures, Carotids), STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, TAVRs, and ventilated ICU overflow patients including COVID cases
  • Utilizes specialty intervention equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
  • Manages PICC, midline, CVC, Swan, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • RNs required to titrate multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neosynephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • Charting performed in EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
  • Every other holiday required
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to all levels of care with expectation to take a full patient team

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • ACLS preferred and CCRN considered a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Strong skills in strip interpretation, assessment, critical thinking, communication, and time management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and follow protocols as written
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

  • Unit staffed with 24/7 charge nurses and house supervisors
  • CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs cover the unit most of the time, with providers available on call
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7 to manage ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide therapy
  • All patients monitored via Philips telemetry with monitor techs available, though RNs are expected to interpret strips
  • PCT support available with ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15 depending on staffing
  • Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day of orientation and 2 days with a preceptor
  • Scrubs must be clean and appropriately fitted; no specific color required and scrubs are not provided
  • Local candidates accepted, with reduced bill rate applying to those within 50 miles of the facility
  • COVID vaccination not required for this position
