Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring active IL licensure and at least 2 years of CVICU experience.

Details

  • Acute care CVICU with 20 all-private, all-monitored beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 depending on acuity
  • Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients (CABG, valves, dissections, AAA, vascular/carotid procedures), STEMI, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, TAVR, and ventilated ICU overflow patients including COVID cases
  • Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
  • Manages PICC lines, midlines, CVCs, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
  • RNs responsible for titrating multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neosynephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7
  • Respiratory therapists in-house 24/7 managing ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
  • Philips monitoring used for all patients with RNs expected to interpret strips
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to every level of care, taking a full patient team
  • EPIC EMR used

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred and CCRN a plus
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Strong skills in strip interpretation, assessment, critical thinking, and time management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and take a full patient assignment immediately without additional training
  • Experience with Swan Ganz catheters, CVC, arterial lines, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, and multiple drip titrations required
  • Must be able to manage ventilated patients and complex cardiovascular interventions

Additional Information

  • Unit occasionally cares for EP patients and complex cases involving multiple specialty interventions on a single patient
  • Unit-specific orientation includes 1 day of unit orientation and 2 days with a preceptor
  • No particular scrub color required, but attire must be professional and appropriate; scrubs not provided
  • Scheduling is not self-scheduled for travelers, with priority given to permanent staff
  • Local candidates accepted
  • No radius rule, though reduced local rates apply for clinicians within 50 miles of the facility
  • COVID vaccination not required for this facility
