Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year of CVICU experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet-designated hospital with a Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Care for cardiac patients including immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemaker placements
  • Care for thoracic surgery patients including fresh post-op esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, and lobectomy
  • Care for vascular surgery patients including fresh post-op AAA, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy
  • RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status
  • Tech to patient ratio of 1:8-10
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
  • 12-hour night shift, 7p-7a, with 36 or 48 hour contracts available
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), sitter duties, and PACU Surge

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Specific CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
  • One professional reference dated within the last year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for post-surgical cardiac, thoracic, and vascular ICU patients
  • RNs perform blood draws from invasive lines only; peripheral sticks are handled by phlebotomy
  • Department support includes charge nurse, 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated RT
  • Bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring used, no dedicated tele tech
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of New Employee Orientation followed by preceptor-led unit orientation
  • 6-week self-scheduling cycle, with schedule provided 1-2 weeks in advance
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
  • Facility fatigue policy limits staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • Scrubs must be a solid professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking available, including shuttle service for day shift and an attached parking structure for night shift
  • First-time travelers considered if minimum experience requirements are met
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former Advocate Health employees must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
