Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Comprehensive Stroke Center that is Magnet designated
  • Patient population includes post-op cardiac surgeries (CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, pacemakers), thoracic surgeries (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy), and vascular surgeries (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)
  • Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status, with tech support at 1:8-10
  • 12-hour day or night shifts from 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
  • 36 or 48-hour contracts available
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 1-2 holidays required per contract
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), sitter duties, and PACU surge
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
  • 6-week self-scheduling cycle with schedules provided 1-2 weeks in advance
  • Facility fatigue policy limits staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care to critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients
  • RNs draw from invasive lines but are not responsible for peripheral sticks; phlebotomy assists with peripheral blood draws
  • Unit supported by charge nurse, 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU intensivist, on-call CT surgeon, onsite hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated RT
  • Bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring with no dedicated tele tech
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of NEO with a supervisor or nurse educator, followed by preceptorship on the unit
  • RTO approval available for up to 7 days
  • Scrubs must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking available, with shuttle service for day shift and an attached parking structure for night shift
  • First-time travelers accepted as long as experience requirements are met
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius rules
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
