Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiovascular ICU RN with a WI or compact RN license and at least 3 years of ICU experience including 1 year in CVICU.

Details

  • 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center hospital
  • Patient population includes post-op cardiac cases (CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repair/replacement, heart transplants, pacemakers), thoracic surgery patients (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy), and vascular surgery patients (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 for ICU status, 1:3 for mixed status; tech ratio of 1:8-10
  • 12-hour day or night shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a), 36 or 48 hour contracts available
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), sitter duties, and PACU Surge
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
  • Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring with no dedicated tele tech

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Prior CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care for critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients
  • RNs draw from invasive lines but are not permitted to perform peripheral sticks
  • Strong department support including 24/7 charge nurse, HUC, dedicated CVICU intensivist, CT surgeon on call, hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated RT
  • Phlebotomy team assists with peripheral blood draws
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of new employee orientation with supervisor/nurse educator, followed by preceptor-guided unit orientation
  • 6-week schedule cycle, with schedule provided 1-2 weeks in advance
  • Facility fatigue policy limits staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract
  • Scrub requirement: any solid professional color, no graphics or logos
  • Free parking available with shuttle service for day shift and attached parking structure for night shift
  • First-time travelers welcome if minimum experience requirements are met
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
