Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • 30-bed Critical Care CVICU unit in a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet-designated, Comprehensive Stroke Center hospital
  • Cares for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, pacemaker placements, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, AAA repair, TEVAR, and carotid endarterectomy
  • RN patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status; tech ratio of 1:8-10
  • 12-hour day or night shift schedule (0700-1900 or 1900-0700) on a 6-week cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation with 1-2 holidays required per contract
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), Sitter duty, or PACU Surge
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemaker management (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • Experience with ECMO, CVVH, IABP, or VAD preferred
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care for critically ill cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients, including invasive line draws (peripheral sticks not permitted for RNs)
  • Supported by 24/7 dedicated CVICU intensivist, CT surgeon on call, hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated RT, plus charge nurse and HUC coverage around the clock
  • Phlebotomy team assists with peripheral blood draws; telemetry is monitored at bedside and nurses' station with no dedicated tele tech
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of new employee orientation with a supervisor or nurse educator, followed by unit placement with a preceptor
  • Facility follows a fatigue policy limiting staff, including travelers, to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved per contract
  • Scrubs must be any solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking available, including shuttle service for day shift and an attached parking structure for night shift
  • First-time travelers are welcome if they meet the minimum experience requirements
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
