Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Care for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, AAA repair, and carotid endarterectomy
  • RN patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status with tech ratios of 1:8-10
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU, sitter duties, or PACU Surge
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

Requirements

  • of ICu experience
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • Experience with CV surgical specialties (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
  • Candidate date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct cardiovascular ICU nursing care including invasive line monitoring, ventilator management, and administration of cardiac medications
  • RNs draw blood from invasive lines only; peripheral sticks are performed by phlebotomy staff
  • Unit supported by a dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT surgeon, hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated RT available 24/7
  • Charge nurse support available, rarely carrying a patient assignment
  • HUC support available 24/7
  • Bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring used, with no dedicated tele tech
  • Orientation includes 2-4 hours of New Employee Orientation followed by preceptored unit orientation
  • Facility follows a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle, provided 1-2 weeks in advance
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved during the contract
  • Solid-colored, professional scrubs required with no graphics or logos
  • First-time travelers will be considered if minimum experience requirements are met
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
