Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year in CVICU care.

Details

  • Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center with a 30-bed CVICU
  • Cares for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, AAA repair, and carotid endarterectomy
  • RN patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status; tech ratio 1:8-10
  • 12-hour day or night shifts, 0700-1900 or 1900-0700, on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • 36 or 48-hour contracts available
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU, Sitter duty, or PACU Surge
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • Experience with invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, TV), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • CV surgical experience with ECMO, CVVH, IABP, or VAD preferred
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct bedside care for critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients
  • Draw blood from invasive lines; peripheral sticks are handled by phlebotomy
  • Supported by 24/7 dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, Hospitalist, General Intensivist, ICU-designated RT, and HUC
  • Charge nurse present but rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Bedside and nurses station telemetry monitoring with no dedicated tele tech
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of NEO with a supervisor/nurse educator, followed by preceptor-guided unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract
  • Scrubs must be any solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Facility adheres to a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
  • First-time travelers welcome if minimum experience requirements are met
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
