Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

  • 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with a Level III NICU and Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs/replacement, heart transplants, and pacemaker patients
  • Also cares for fresh post-op thoracic surgery patients (esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy) and vascular surgery patients (AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy)
  • RN patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, and 1:3 for mixed status, with tech ratios of 1:8-10
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a on a 36 or 48-hour contract
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), Sitter duty, and PACU Surge
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
  • Bedside/nurses station telemetry monitoring without a dedicated tele tech
  • 6-week schedule cycle with schedules provided 1-2 weeks in advance
  • Facility fatigue policy limits staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
  • Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemaker management (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Specific CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
  • RNs draw from invasive lines only; peripheral sticks not performed by RNs
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing for post-surgical cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients
  • Supported by a charge nurse (rarely with a patient assignment), 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, onsite Hospitalist, General Intensivist, and ICU-designated RT
  • Phlebotomy team available to assist with peripheral blood draws
  • One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of New Employee Orientation with a supervisor or nurse educator, followed by preceptor-guided unit orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
  • RTO approval available for up to 7 days
  • Scrubs must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking available, including shuttle service for day shift and an attached parking structure for night shift
  • First-time travelers welcome if minimum experience requirements are met
  • No radius rules apply; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignments
