Description

Job Title: Mental Health Technician Profession: Mental Health Technician Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year of inpatient psychiatric experience License: Maine CNA license Certifications: BLS, MOAB (will obtain on-site) Must-Have: Experience working with adolescents and pediatric patients Description: As soon as possible start needed. Interviews will be conducted followed by manager approval. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility that contracts with a nearby emergency room. All patients are medically cleared upon admission. There are typically no lines, drains, tubes, etc. The unit has a total of 50 beds dedicated to pediatric patients. Staffing ratios include 6 psych techs during the day and 2 psych techs at night. Common diagnoses include autism, self-mutilation, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, trauma, and gender dysphoria. The candidate must have experience working with adolescents and pediatric patients who may be admitted involuntarily or voluntarily. The job involves redirection and de-escalation, assisting with activities of daily living, rounding every 7.5 minutes, acting as a 1:1 sitter, participating in physical holds, and obtaining EKGs if necessary. General skills sought include being punctual, having a good attitude, and flexibility. The management team is open to communication and encourages staff to raise any issues directly. Support staff includes the Nurse Manager during the day and a House Administrator available overnight and on weekends. The unit will float to the adult unit if necessary. Schedule includes weekends every other week, with holiday expectations in rotation. Travelers will sign up for preferred shifts, which will be reviewed to ensure coverage. Uniforms must be of a solid color and professional in appearance. This position will engage directly with various patient populations and requires a compassionate and adaptable approach.
