Overview:
The Opportunity
The Corporate Counsel will serve as the primary point of contact for all contractual issues associated with a multimillion-dollar projects, working directly with the General Counsel and the Project Executives. This role is integral to ensuring contractual compliance, risk mitigation, and effective legal support for project operations.
Location
You will work at our enterprise headquarters in Detroit, MI with frequent travel to projects as required.
Responsibilities:
Your key responsibilities
Interpret and advise project team on contract provisions and obligations
Within established time frames, draft and issue formal notices to:
Owner
Subcontractors
Insurance companies
Collaborate with the Risk Mitigation team to address:
OCIP (Owner Controlled Insurance Program)
SDI (Subcontractor Default Insurance)
Other insurance obligations
Review and draft riders to standard subcontracts
Support the project team with:
Change order requirements
Change management processes
Ensure timely submission of all contractual documentation
Provide training and guidance to the operations team on contractual requirements
Qualifications:
To qualify for the role, you must have
Juris Doctor (JD)
1-5 years of experience in construction law, contract interpretation, and risk management
Understanding of insurance programs (OCIP, SDI)
Excellent written communication and collaboration skills
Willing to work onsite at the project site and at our Headquarters
Ideally, you’ll also have
Proficiency with internal business software and databases, including SharePoint and CMIC
