Territory Sales Manager
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Regional Manager, the Territory Sales Manager will lead sales activities for a portfolio of high-performance cutting tool solutions across an assigned territory. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional product value, technical support, and customer service to manufacturing customers. The position requires a strong commitment to integrity, professionalism, and a consultative, education-based selling approach within the industrial manufacturing space.
Principal Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with distributors and key manufacturing accounts to sell, service, and support both standard catalog and engineered special cutting tool products.
- Leverage in-depth product knowledge to engage both direct and distributor accounts, assess customer needs, answer technical questions, and recommend solutions that drive growth opportunities.
- Utilize an education-based selling approach to expand sales through technical guidance and application support.
- Develop, establish, and maintain Centers of Excellence and/or reference accounts to support product promotion and industry visibility initiatives.
- Provide ongoing competitive analysis by identifying strengths and weaknesses of products compared to market alternatives and reporting insights to management.
- Stay current on new products, technologies, and industry trends while monitoring competitor activity and identifying opportunities to expand distributor and end-user relationships.
- Identify and focus efforts on key manufacturers representing the majority of sales potential within the assigned territory.
- Conduct regular visits to top end-user accounts, including consistent monthly engagement with priority customers.
- Participate in strategic sales planning meetings with authorized distributors at least twice per year.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with distributor leadership, including owners and presidents, ensuring consistent communication and alignment.
- Maintain clear understanding of sales goals and execute structured plans to achieve and exceed performance expectations.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge and machining application expertise at the spindle level.
- Document customer cost savings and productivity improvements, and communicate results to both end users and distributor partners.
- Train and support both inside and outside distributor sales teams to effectively promote and sell products.
- Dedicate the majority of selling time to influencing end users while leveraging distribution channels to drive sales through a partnership-based model.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and/or relevant industry experience.
Skills & Experience
- Prior experience in a similar industrial manufacturing or cutting tool environment preferred.
- Minimum of three years of field sales experience demonstrating strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage large geographic territories and diverse technical product lines.
- Strong ability to stay current with emerging technologies, machining trends, and distributor requirements.
- Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Consistently demonstrates a customer-focused, service-oriented mindset in all interactions.
