Territory Manager – Virginia (Project Manager / Estimator)
ADD Communications, LLC – Christiansburg, VA (New River Valley / Roanoke area) | Full-Time | Salary + Commission
Estimated Pay: $50,000 – $58,000 base salary plus commission on the gross profit of every job you win and deliver. Strong performers can earn $80,000 – $100,000+, with a clear path to a share of the profits as the territory grows.
Build a Territory, Not Just a Bid List
ADD Communications is a structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure contractor serving commercial customers across North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. General contractors, electrical contractors, and facility owners call us when the network has to be done right the first time: copper and fiber installation, fiber splicing, terminations, testing and certification, cable pathways, and MDF/IDF buildouts.
We're a hands-on, growing company with a skilled crew and an owner who has spent his career in the field. Our next step is growing from a cabling contractor into a full fiber optic and network infrastructure company, and Virginia is where that growth happens next.
We're looking for an experienced low-voltage professional to plant ADD's flag in Southwest Virginia: win profitable work, run it well, and build the team that does it. You'll start as a team of one, with our North Carolina crew supporting your first projects. As your pipeline grows, you'll hire and lead your own Virginia crew, and eventually more than one.
About the Role
As Territory Manager, you are ADD Communications in Virginia. You'll find the work, price it, win it, and see it through to a happy customer. Then you'll do it again, and build relationships that bring repeat business.
This is a salaried, professional role, Monday through Friday, with travel throughout Virginia. You'll work independently day to day and report to the Owner, with regular check-ins on your pipeline, projects, and numbers. You'll be measured on results: bids submitted, win rate (our target is at least 1 in 3), gross profit on completed jobs, and steady growth of the territory.
What You'll Do
Win the Work
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents, and prepare accurate estimates for structured cabling, Cat6, fiber optic, pathway, and MDF/IDF projects.
- Build complete takeoffs covering labor hours, materials, equipment, travel, and subcontractors, priced to meet company margin targets.
- Flag risks, missing information, and exclusions; submit professional proposals on time; and follow up on every bid until it's awarded or lost.
- Keep an organized pipeline of pending bids, awarded work, and upcoming opportunities, with a steady pace of new bids each week.
Build Relationships
- Develop relationships with general contractors, electrical contractors, construction managers, property owners, and other decision-makers across Virginia.
- Research upcoming commercial projects, request invitations to bid, and introduce ADD's capabilities to new customers.
- Turn first jobs into repeat customers, and spot opportunities for fiber, network upgrades, and other services.
- Represent ADD at construction meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
Run the Job
- Manage awarded projects from handoff through installation, testing, documentation, punch list, and final acceptance.
- Build schedules, labor plans, and material orders, and coordinate with GCs, customers, and other trades.
- Track labor, materials, and costs against the estimate, and catch delays and overruns before they become problems.
- Manage change orders and get approval before extra work starts. Keep customers and the Owner informed with clear, regular updates.
Build the Team
- Recruit, hire, and train qualified low-voltage technicians as awarded work supports it, starting with a two-person Virginia crew.
- Develop lead technicians who can run a job site, and hold the crew to our standards for quality, safety, and professionalism.
- Schedule crews and coordinate tools, vehicles, and materials so every job is staffed without carrying extra overhead.
Protect the Margin
- Work within company pricing, purchasing, and approval guidelines; pricing exceptions, major purchases, and hiring decisions are approved by the Owner.
- Compare estimated vs. actual gross profit on every job, and recommend improvements to how we bid and build.
- Help write the playbook we'll use to launch future territories.
What We're Looking For
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in structured cabling, fiber optics, telecommunications, or commercial low-voltage construction.
- Proven experience estimating commercial projects from drawings and specifications.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating field crews to meet construction deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber installation, termination, testing, labeling, and cable management.
- Ability to read construction drawings, riser diagrams, floor plans, and specifications.
- Comfortable meeting new people and building a customer base, not just pricing what comes in.
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, the Christiansburg / Roanoke area.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel throughout Virginia.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, email, and project management tools.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience that qualifies you for the Virginia DPOR Electronic/Communication Service (ESC) contractor specialty.
- BICSI credentials (Installer, Technician, or RCDD), or fiber splicing and OTDR testing experience.
- Existing relationships with Virginia general contractors, electrical contractors, or commercial customers.
- Experience with bidding platforms (such as BuildingConnected or ConstructConnect) and estimating software.
- Experience preparing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout packages.
- Experience opening a branch, launching a territory, or managing government or federal projects.
The Kind of Person Who Thrives Here
- You're a builder. Starting something from the ground up excites you more than it scares you.
- You'd rather win the right job at the right price than chase every bid.
- You know your numbers and own them: estimate vs. actual, win rate, and margin.
- You lead by example and want a crew that takes pride in clean, well-documented work.
- You're a straight shooter who communicates clearly with customers, crews, and the Owner, without being chased.
- You work well independently, and you're thinking long-term: Territory Manager today, regional leader tomorrow.
What We Offer
- A base salary plus commission on gross profit, so your income grows as your territory does.
- A clear career path: Territory Manager → leader of a Virginia crew → Regional Manager with a share of the profits.
- Real ownership of a market, with the support of an experienced North Carolina crew behind your first projects.
- Mileage or vehicle allowance, company phone, laptop, and estimating tools.
- A seat at the table in a growing company that's expanding into fiber optic and network infrastructure.
- An owner who invests in training, certifications, and growing his people.
Bottom Line
If you've been the person who makes the projects happen for someone else, and you're ready to build a territory of your own with the pay to match, we want to talk to you. Bring your experience, your relationships, and your drive. We'll bring the crew, the backing, and the opportunity.
How to Apply
Applying is quick and easy. You'll be invited to complete a short video interview (easy to do from your phone) and a brief assessment before moving to an interview with the Owner. Completing both steps gives you priority in the hiring process.
