The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) and the Department of Medical Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University invite applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position in the Division of Population Science. Population science is an area of strategic growth at SKCCC, with ongoing investment in faculty recruitment, research infrastructure, data and analytic capabilities, and integration across the Jefferson Health enterprise. We seek an investigator who will join this growing environment and lead an innovative, externally funded research program addressing important problems in cancer prevention and control.

The Division of Population Science and SKCCC's Cancer Risk and Control (CRiC) Research Program are building an increasingly integrated research enterprise focused on reducing cancer risk, improving early detection, and optimizing cancer care and survivorship. We are particularly interested in investigators whose research strengthens cancer survivorship, cancer care delivery and implementation, or population-based cancer epidemiology, while bringing distinctive methodological capabilities that expand population science across SKCCC and Jefferson Health.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to:

· Lead an independent, externally funded program of investigator-initiated cancer population science research.

· Develop and sustain a strong portfolio of peer-reviewed extramural funding as PI or MPI.

· Publish high-impact scholarship that advances cancer prevention and control and improves population health.

· Develop interdisciplinary and interprogrammatic collaborations that connect population science with clinical, translational, community-engaged, and other areas of cancer research.

· Leverage the scale and diversity of Jefferson Health to conduct impactful population-based, health system, and healthcare delivery research.

· Mentor students, fellows, and junior investigators and contribute to the development of the next generation of cancer population scientists, consistent with academic rank.

Areas of Scientific Focus

We seek investigators with established or emerging nationally recognized research programs in cancer survivorship, cancer care delivery and implementation, population-based cancer epidemiology, or closely related areas of cancer prevention and control.

Areas of particular interest include research focused on improving outcomes across the cancer survivorship continuum; improving the delivery, quality, equity, effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of cancer care; and using population-based approaches to understand cancer risk, incidence, screening, care, and outcomes.

Research that bridges these areas or connects population science with clinical, biological, health system, or community-based research is especially encouraged.

Methodological Expertise

Across these scientific areas, we are particularly interested in investigators who bring methodological capabilities that expand the Division's research portfolio. These may include implementation science, health economics, pragmatic and hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials, causal inference, and innovative use of large-scale real-world and population data, including electronic health records, claims, cancer registries, longitudinal cohorts, and linked datasets. Additional capabilities of interest include natural language processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, population informatics, digital health, and integration of clinical, behavioral, social, environmental, and other multilevel data.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and have a record of rigorous cancer-focused research appropriate to academic rank.

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should demonstrate clear evidence of research independence and a strong trajectory toward sustained investigator-initiated extramural funding. Candidates at the Associate Professor or Professor level should have an established, independently funded research program with a strong record of serving as PI or MPI on peer-reviewed extramural research awards.

About the Research Environment

SKCCC is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center comprising investigators from Thomas Jefferson University and Drexel University. Population science at SKCCC spans cancer epidemiology and risk, prevention, screening and early detection, supportive oncology, cancer care delivery and health services research, and survivorship. The Cancer Risk and Control Program brings together investigators across these areas using epidemiologic, behavioral, clinical, implementation, community-engaged, and data-driven approaches.

SKCCC's expanded catchment area spans 14 counties across Pennsylvania and New Jersey and includes more than 6.5 million people. The catchment encompasses diverse urban, suburban, and rural communities, extending from Philadelphia and Camden through the Lehigh Valley and into Pennsylvania's Appalachian region. This geographic and population diversity creates exceptional opportunities for population-based research addressing cancer risk, disparities, care delivery, and outcomes.

Jefferson Health provides a large, integrated healthcare enterprise and a growing network of regional research sites across this footprint. Together, these resources create opportunities to conduct multi-site population-based studies, pragmatic and implementation research, healthcare

delivery research, and studies using real-world clinical and population data across diverse healthcare settings and communities.

The Division is developing additional infrastructure to support this work, including enhanced clinical research operations and shared capabilities in population data and analytics. SKCCC's consortium partnership with Drexel University provides complementary expertise and opportunities for collaboration in public health, geospatial science, health policy, and related disciplines.
