Role description

Role Overview

The Technical Program Manager - Enterprise Systems (Workday focused) leads the planning, execution, governance, and technical delivery of large, complex, highly visible programs and incremental improvements across Workday and connected enterprise back-office systems. This role drives business-critical initiatives from implementation through stabilization, coordinating cross-functional business and technical teams, vendors, and system integrators to deliver measurable outcomes on time, within budget, and within scope.

This position serves as the technical delivery lead for internal and external teams supporting HR, Finance, Payroll, Technology, and Operations. Success requires technical fluency in Workday and connected enterprise systems, disciplined program-management practices, and the ability to communicate delivery status, risks, trade-offs, and decisions clearly to leadership. The role owns the mechanics of execution - sequencing technical workstreams, resolving dependencies, and driving release readiness across platforms.

What You'll Do

Technical Program Planning & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end program and project delivery for large, complex enterprise initiatives spanning Workday and other enterprise back-office systems, from initiation through planning, execution, deployment, stabilization, and closure.
  • Build and maintain integrated program plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, milestones, and delivery forecasts, and keep them current as work progresses.
  • Manage demand intake, prioritization, and capacity planning across the enterprise systems portfolio, sequencing work against available resources, budget, and delivery risk in partnership with business and Technology leaders.
  • Maintain a consolidated view of programs, projects, releases, and enhancements, including interdependencies, resource conflicts, and delivery risk.
  • Apply Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methods based on program complexity, delivery risk, and team maturity.
  • Define and monitor delivery KPIs, milestones, and program health; surface data-driven insights and recommendations to leadership.

Workday & Enterprise Technical Delivery

  • Lead delivery for Workday initiatives spanning HCM, Finance, Payroll, integrations, reporting, security, configuration changes, feature adoption, and major release management.
  • Partner with Workday functional, technical, integration, security, data, reporting, and support teams to align delivery plans with platform capabilities, technical dependencies, and operational-readiness requirements.
  • Own delivery of programs spanning enterprise back-office systems, including Harri, Crunchtime, Vertex, Lucernex, and connected third-party platforms.
  • Coordinate technical workstreams end to end - integrations, data conversion, testing, security, reporting, release readiness, cutover, and production support.
  • Ensure cross-platform dependencies are identified, sequenced, resourced, tracked, and resolved in partnership with internal teams, vendors, and system integrators.
  • Lead vendor and implementation-partner engagements, holding them to delivery expectations, quality standards, accountability, timelines, and escalation processes.

Governance, Executive Communication & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Establish and run program governance, including steering committees, workstream meetings, communication cadences, decision logs, status reporting, and escalation paths.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact to leadership, delivering concise, decision-ready updates on delivery health, risks, trade-offs, funding, milestones, and key decisions.
  • Lead and influence cross-functional, matrixed teams without direct authority, aligning stakeholders around priorities, accountability, delivery commitments, and quality expectations.
  • Build productive partnerships with leaders across HR, Finance, Payroll, Technology, Operations, Legal, and external vendors.
  • Develop delivery-focused presentations, program dashboards, and recommendations that communicate complex technical and operational information clearly.

Risk, Dependency & Financial Management

  • Proactively identify, assess, track, mitigate, and escalate program risks, issues, dependencies, assumptions, and change requests across workstreams.
  • Maintain comprehensive RAID logs, action trackers, decision registers, contingency plans, and change-control documentation.
  • Manage program budgets, vendor spend, resource allocations, forecasts, and financial reporting in partnership with technology and business leadership.
  • Evaluate the impact of scope, timeline, resource, vendor, architecture, and process changes; facilitate timely decisions and recommend practical paths forward.
  • Drive accountability for risk mitigation, dependency resolution, and milestone delivery across internal and external teams.

Change Management, Readiness & Adoption

  • Partner with business and functional leaders to execute structured change-management, communication, training, and adoption plans.
  • Ensure business, technical, operational, and support readiness for major releases, implementations, and process changes.
  • Coordinate testing, cutover, deployment, hypercare, and post-implementation stabilization across functional and technical teams.
  • Capture lessons learned and implement improvements to program-management practices, governance routines, and delivery standards.

Program Operations & Tools

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible program documentation, including charters, schedules, budgets, integrated status reports, RAID logs, governance materials, and executive presentations.
  • Use Jira, Confluence, and Monday.com to manage backlogs, plan and track delivery work, document decisions, monitor dependencies, and provide real-time visibility to stakeholders.

Establish consistent reporting standards and program-management practices across enterprise systems initiatives.
