    Description

    Position: System Interpreter Services Coordinator

    Department: Interpreter Services

    Shift: 8:00 am-4:30 pm, full-time, 40 hours a week, 80 hours per pay period

    Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

    The System Interpreter Services Coordinator oversees the organization's interpreter services program, ensuring Limited English Proficient (LEP) and deaf or hard-of-hearing patients receive communication support in compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and federal law.

    This position manages interpreter services across all hospital campuses and affiliated sites, including scheduling, vendor coordination, quality monitoring, compliance, reporting, and staff education. The Coordinator partners with internal teams and external agencies to ensure timely, high-quality language access services, develops policies and training related to culturally competent care, and monitors program effectiveness through data analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Reporting to the Director of Organizational Learning/Patient Experience, the Coordinator serves as a key member of the Patient Experience team, collaborating with staff, leadership, patients, families, and vendors. When needed, the Coordinator also provides Spanish interpretation and translation support, assists with patient communications, coordinates translation of written materials, manages vendor invoices, and supports resolution of patient concerns related to interpreter services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee interpreter services across all hospital campuses and affiliated locations.
    • Develop and maintain interpreter services policies, procedures, and compliance standards.
    • Supervise interpreter scheduling and coordinate services with external vendors.
    • Monitor service quality, utilization, costs, and patient satisfaction metrics.
    • Provide Spanish interpretation and translation services as needed.
    • Coordinate translation of patient-facing materials.
    • Educate staff on language access requirements and culturally competent care.
    • Support resolution of patient concerns related to interpreter services.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable state, federal, and regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare reports on program performance, utilization, and expenses.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree

    Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 to 3 years of job-related experience

    Area of study or major: Healthcare administration, communication, business

    Bachelor's Degree preferred

    Licensure/Certification/Registration

    Medical Spanish interpreter certification or experience in the field

    Knowledge/Skills

    Working knowledge of EPIC

    Experience with project management

    • Experience with de-escalation and resolutions
    • Experience with scorecards
    • Fluent in English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to interact with and understand people from different cultural, socioeconomic, or other backgrounds.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate compassion, fairness, and an inclusive approach to a wide variety of individuals and groups from within and outside of the organization.
    • Ability to interact with patients and families of varying degrees of illness, under stressful and/or emergency situations.
    • Skilled in efficient and cost-effective management of scheduling, department budgets, and other resources.
    • Computer skills with proficiency in keyboarding, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.), and data management are required. Prior experience with an electronic medical record platform is a plus.
    • Proven ability to maintain flexibility, problem-solve, and make decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
