Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor - Environmental Service.

The Supervisor, Environmental Services, provides day-to-day operational leadership and direct supervision of Buildings & Grounds and Waste Management personnel supporting the Manhattan campus of NYU Langone Health.
The position is responsible for staffing, scheduling, employee performance, service quality, vendor performance, and continuity of essential services. Oversees contracted services to ensure compliance with established standards and contractual requirements, leads quality assurance activities, resolves operational issues, and coordinates seasonal and emergency operations, including severe weather response. Participates in a weekly on-call rotation to provide leadership and operational support during off-hours.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Buildings & Grounds and Waste Management personnel, including staffing, scheduling, work assignments, attendance, payroll, training, coaching, performance management, and employee development. Establish clear expectations and hold staff accountable for performance and service standards.
  • Oversee daily Environmental Services operations, ensuring consistent, high-quality cleaning and window-cleaning services in accordance with established standards, specifications, infection prevention requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Manage vendor accounts and contracted services, monitoring service quality, performance, responsiveness, and compliance. Conduct regular performance reviews, address deficiencies, and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Maintain cleaning and window-cleaning specifications and conductQuality Assurance inspectionsto evaluate performance, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.Respond to service concerns, coordinate special requests, and ensure timely and satisfactory resolution of issues.
  • Review vendor invoices, resolve discrepancies, and process payments. Support the departments annual operating budget, inventory control, and management of departmental vehicles and equipment in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Plan and manage staffing and operational coverage, adjusting schedules, assignments, and resources to meet changing operational needs and maintain continuity of essential services.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of programs, procedures, and operational initiatives. Respond to service requests through Maintenance Connection and coordinate timely resolution with staff and contractors.
  • Lead operational response to emergencies and severe weather events, including flooding, snow, and icy conditions. Coordinate staffing, vendors, equipment, and resources and make timely operational decisions to maintain safe and effective operations.
  • Participate in aweekly on-call rotation, providing leadership, decision-making, and operational support during off-hours.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, customer service, safety, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with applicable organizational, regulatory, and operational requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Three years of Environmental Services experience
  • Three years in a supervisory capacity; or six years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Experience must include cleaning operations and/or supervision in hospitals, including Article 28 facilities, ambulatory care centers, research laboratories, schools, administrative offices, and clinical environments.
  • Experience managing cleaning vendors and service contracts preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills required. Proficiency with relevant computer applications and systems, including work-order and operational management systems, required.
  • Experience with Maintenance Connection or similar systems preferred.
  • Valid drivers license required

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,300.00 - $91,809.10 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
