Welkin Mechanical builds complex heavy mechanical and infrastructure projects across the New York metro area, often inside operating facilities where planning and judgment matter every day. As our projects grow and take on more civil scope, including work at operating wastewater treatment plants, we’re looking for a superintendent with a versatile background in both heavy civil and mechanical construction.

As a Welkin Superintendent, you won’t just supervise the work. You’ll decide how it gets built. As the senior field leader, you’ll work alongside the Project Manager/Executive and own field execution from site work and structures through mechanical installation, testing, commissioning and turnover.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience will be considered.
• OSHA 30, NYC DOB SST and NYC DOB Construction Superintendent registration preferred.
• Rigging, confined-space, excavation/trenching or competent-person credentials are a plus.

• Direct day-to-day field operations through general foremen, foremen and subcontractors.
• Develop and mentor foremen, field engineers and project engineers.
• Build look-ahead schedules tied to the CPM schedule, identifying manpower, material, equipment, access, shutdown and bypass needs.
• Lead constructability, sequencing, site logistics and means-and-methods planning across civil and mechanical scopes, including excavation and dewatering, concrete and structures, yard and process piping, pumps and process equipment, rigging, tie-ins and temporary systems.
• Track labor productivity, installed quantities and progress, and work with the Project Manager to ensure the project stays within budget and on schedule.
• Oversee subcontractor progress and confirm work is performed per their contracts, drawings and specifications, with acceptable quality and workmanship.
• Develop construction work plans, assist with JHA development, lift and rigging plans and daily safety planning, and reinforce stop-work authority.
• Conduct quality inspections and confirm work conforms to drawings, specifications and approved submittals.
• Coordinate site testing and agency inspections.
• Maintain strong working relationships with owners, plant operations staff, engineers, inspectors and trade partners.
• Prepare Superintendent Daily Reports and participate in project and coordination meetings.
• Drive startup, commissioning, punch list, turnover and closeout.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and climb as necessary.
• The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

• 7+ years of progressively responsible field leadership experience in heavy civil and mechanical construction, with water/wastewater treatment experience strongly preferred. Exceptional General Foremen or Assistant Superintendents ready to take the next step are encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, schedules and contract requirements across multiple disciplines.
• Strong understanding of heavy civil and mechanical installation, sequencing, temporary conditions, shutdown planning in operating facilities, testing and commissioning.
• Working knowledge of project cost, labor productivity, subcontract/purchase order requirements and schedule impacts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with field labor, project staff, clients, engineers and senior leadership.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, challenge a plan professionally when a better approach exists, and raise problems early, with options, rather than allowing them to grow.
• Safety-oriented, accountable and team-focused, building safety and quality into the work plan rather than around it.
• Can walk a job and quickly identify what could prevent tomorrow’s work from happening.
• Sets clear expectations and holds people accountable while maintaining an environment where employees are comfortable speaking up.
• Takes pride in finishing difficult work safely, correctly and on schedule.
