Substitute Secretary

Southeast Polk Community School District is seeking a substitute secretary. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, with the ability to perform basic bookkeeping skills, mathematical skills, and operate standard office equipment. Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to organize, prioritize, and function under pressure and deadlines. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills is also required. An associate's degree in business or education related field and previous supervisory experience are desired.

The job goal includes assisting in the distribution of office mail, answering phone calls and emails from students and/or parents regarding food service online payments and/or other account balances, ordering and billing supplies if requested, selling tickets for activities in auditorium and for assemblies, processing paperwork for students eligible for free and reduced applications, recording Medicaid billing information at the direction of the director of special education, maintaining confidentiality on sensitive information, and other duties as assigned.

Physical demands include sitting throughout the work day, presenting appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness, working with interruptions, working with students with different personalities, capabilities, and physical and mental limitations, working in a noisy environment, standing occasionally, lifting up to 50 pounds to waist level, and carrying 25 pounds at waist level for a distance of 100 feet.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Southeast Polk Board Policy. Terms of employment are coordinated with the director.
