    Key Responsibilities

    1. Direct Healthcare & Emergency Response
    • Provide immediate triage, first aid, and emergency care for student and staff injuries or sudden illnesses.
    • Administer daily, PRN (as-needed), and emergency medications according to medical provider orders and parent/guardian consent.
    • Manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, type 1 diabetes, severe allergies, seizure disorders).
    1. Health Plans & Case Management
    • Develop, review, and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for students with specialized medical needs.
    • Delegate appropriate health tasks to trained paraprofessionals while maintaining active nursing supervision.
    • Participate in 504 Plan and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as the primary health consultant.
    1. Screenings & Compliance
    • Conduct state-mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and manage proper referral follow-ups.
    • Audit and maintain student immunization records and health histories in compliance with state regulations.
    • Ensure strict adherence to FERPA, HIPAA, and district confidentiality guidelines.
    1. Health Education & Wellness
    • Educate students, parents, and staff on infection control, hygiene, chronic condition awareness, and disease prevention.
    • Train school staff on CPR/AED usage, EpiPen administration, and emergency response procedures.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred (Associate Degree in Nursing / ADN accepted in some districts).
    • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
    • Certifications:
    • Active CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
    • State Certified School Nurse (CSN) credential or endorsement (where mandated by local school boards/state departments of education).

    • Communication: Clear verbal and written skills for interfacing with parents, physicians, and administrative staff.
