Nature & Purpose of Position

This position provides administrative support for the Department of Physics & Astronomy.

The student worker assists the Assistant to the Department Chair and faculty with routine tasks and helps maintain an organized, welcoming office environment. The role also supports daily departmental operations and interacts regularly with students and visitors.

This position's duties include:

  • Performs administrative support duties for the Assistant to the Department Chair.
  • Answers phone calls and takes messages.
  • Responds to and/or forwards emails.
  • Completes general office tasks, including making copies, maintaining equipment, and producing documents and materials.
  • Assists faculty with various administrative tasks.
  • Runs errands, such as delivering or picking up items.
  • Helps answer questions for students and visitors and directs them to staff or faculty when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with major social media platforms (such as Instagram and Facebook), including content creation, basic analytics, and audience engagement.

Other Requirements for the Position

  • Experience in an office or administrative setting is preferred, along with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and visitors.
  • Must have completed all lower‑level physics courses required for your degree.
  • Cannot major or minor in physics or astronomy due to the sensitivity of the paperwork associated with this position.
