    Direct Counsel is seeking a State & Local Policy & Regulation Associate Attorney to join a highly respected Am Law firm.

    Location: Atlanta, Georgia
    Position Type: Associate (2–5 years)
    Practice Area: Government / Regulatory / Administrative Law

    About the Role
    Direct Counsel is partnering with a leading Am Law firm to identify a junior to mid-level associate for its nationally recognized State & Local Policy & Regulation practice. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of law, policy, and government affairs, advising clients on complex regulatory, legislative, and administrative matters while collaborating across multiple practice groups, including litigation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, motions, and other advocacy materials related to regulatory and policy matters
    • Support administrative and policy-oriented litigation, including trial and appellate proceedings
    • Analyze and interpret legislative and regulatory developments impacting clients
    • Prepare clear, practical guidance on complex legal and policy issues
    • Contribute to client development efforts, including client alerts, presentations, and publications
    • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and internal teams

    Qualifications

    • 2–5 years of relevant experience in regulatory, administrative law, public policy, or related fields
    • Litigation experience is a plus, particularly in administrative or complex civil matters
    • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and government processes
    • Experience in regulated industries such as energy or healthcare is a plus
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into actionable advice
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
    • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

    Requirements

    • Active membership in the Georgia Bar (or ability to become licensed)
