Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Mittelman Laboratory seeks a new research associate to perform mouse and tissue culture experiments investigating the links between obesity and childhood leukemia. Candidates must have relevant experience with culturing cancer cells and adipocytes, handling primary adipose tissue, and mouse handling.

This is a limited position that may convert to career.

Hourly Salary Range: $30.12 - $35.92

Required:

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment, supplies and basic molecular biology techniques
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized working area
  • Ability to keep accurate and organized lab records.
  • Knowledge of chemistry to prepare solutions for lab experiments, and laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical and biohazard waste.
  • Working knowledge and ability in the use of computers (PC and MAC operating systems). Skill in using various computer software. Specifically: R, R Studio, SPSS, MATLAB, ImageJ, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accurate data entry and analysis.
  • Ability to complete tasks in an orderly and timely fashion. Maintain appropriate time management skills. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed.
  • Skill in writing clear and concise correspondence
  • Willingness to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including occasional overtime to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively handle and restrain mice; knowledge of rodent anatomy.
  • Knowledge of the adipose field, including relevant experimental techniques and literature.

Preferred:

  • B.S. degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Knowledge of IRB protocols and applications and University procedures
