
Staff Accountant - Washington, DC
Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its growing Accounting team. This position will be responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, assisting with the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and post routine journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
* Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger account reconciliations
* Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
* Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management functions as needed
* Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies or variances
* Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports
* Support internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and responding to inquiries
* Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
* Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special accounting projects
* Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and enhance operational efficiency
* Collaborate with finance and operational teams to support business objectives
Must-Have Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* 2+ years of progressive accounting experience
* Experience preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations
* Knowledge of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
