Job Title: Special Education Coordinator (Secondary) Salary Block: Administrative Professional
Pay Grade 4
Reports To: Director of Special Education Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Terms of Employment: 226 Days
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree Preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Five (5) years secondary special education teaching experience
Knowledge of content area, curriculum writing, implementation and delivery of professional
development
Demonstrate leadership abilities in Special Education curriculum
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrates experience in the area of Special Education
Some knowledge of bookkeeping, basic accounting, inventory control or financial software
programs that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Valid Texas Driver's License
Working knowledge of word processing and data-based software
Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with budget preparation and the purchasing process preferred
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate leaning activities and experience in the core academic subject area
assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable
students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide teachers with
appropriate teaching activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas. Provide students with
appropriate learning activities and experiences to supplement the core academic subject area assigned to
meet state standards for individual children deemed most in need, or a school wide approach to improve
the overall instructional program.
Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
- Apply the findings of research to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning
process in special education and general education classrooms.
- Assist teachers in developing and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective teaching and
learning.
- Establish and maintain district-wide special education networks in order to facilitate collaboration, support
and feedback for curriculum alignment and development of benchmark assessments.
- Assist campus level administration and instructional staff with student data disaggregation and analysis in
developing Campus Improvement Plans.
- Perform demonstration lessons/model lessons which incorporate effective teaching strategies for all types
of learners.
- Assist both special education and /or general education teachers by demonstrating the use of a variety of
instructional techniques for the appropriate grade levels and/or placements.
- Cooperates with program teachers, parents, campus administrators, and other appropriate staff in meeting
instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and teachers
concerning broad academics and the behavior progress of all students assigned to these programs.

- Communicate to the program director the need for staff development for instruction and/or use of
materials and equipment. Assist in and /or presents appropriate staff development.
- Assist with the coordination of appropriate programs EC-12 so that students have the opportunity to reach
optimum performance.
- Assist in building capacity among administrators and campus level staff through the facilitation of
leadership development and SBDM processes.
- Evaluate, select, and implement the use of technology.
Instructional Strategies
- Assists teachers in the development and implementation of lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of
district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepares and models lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and
different levels.
- Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies,
and administrative regulations.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies and assist in the planning of strategies,
activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students
in coordination with campus and district resources.
- Conducts assessment of student learning styles and language abilities and use results to plan
instructional activities that will benefit the instructional staff.
- Assists teachers with the disaggregation and use of campus/student assessment data as it relates to the
Special Education population.
- Works cooperatively with all instructional staff.
- Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to
district requirements.
Instructional Strategies
- Provides feedback on the classroom teaching and the staff development results as they impacted
teachers.
- Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic
review and analysis to ensure alignment with the TEKS and State Mandated Assessment.
Other
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the CISD safety program.
- Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
- Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district
operations.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
